2008 Program Statistics: How Adopt-A-Highway Volunteers Are Making A Difference In Delaware

All program statistics are for the year ending 2008

  • Overall there are 758 groups participating in the program
    • 224 are from New Castle County
    • 224 are from Kent County
    • 310 are from Sussex County
  • In 2008, DelDOT added over 100 new volunteer groups to it's litter-fighting team
  • April is the best month for doing cleanups
  • New Castle County has the most new volunteers, as they submitted the most new applications (45) for 2008
  • Volunteers in Sussex County collected the most bags of trash (6500 bags in 2008)
  • Volunteers in Sussex County also did the most cleanups, with 296 cleanups being conducted in 2008
  • Volunteers in Sussex County also spend the most time doing the cleanups, with a total of 820 hours being devoted to litter removal
  • Volunteers in New Castle County have the most people participating in cleanups, with 1746 people doing cleanups
