Public Workshop to Discuss Plans for New Indian River Inlet Bridge

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) held a Public Workshop to present a model of the proposed Indian River Inlet Bridge. The workshop was held Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at the Delaware Seashore State Park parking lot on the southeast side of the Indian River Inlet Bridge from 5:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m. A presentation to unveil the new design began at 5:30 p.m.

At the workshop, the public viewed a model of the proposed Indian River Inlet Bridge. In addition, displays and information were available regarding access roads, landscaping and improvements to the Delaware Seashore State Park.

The public has played an instrumental role in the aesthetic design of this new bridge. Within the last nine months, the citizens of Sussex County have attended three public workshops and a group of citizens has participated in two design charettes. As a result, the bridge design team has completed the preliminary design for the replacement bridge.

Nathan Hayward III (Secretary of Transportation), John Hughes (Secretary of Natural Resources and Environmental Control) and Harriet Smith - Windsor (Secretary of State), were present as a model of Delaware’s newest landmark was unveiled to the public. The bridge design team was also present to describe the proposed design and answer questions.
