Archaeology Month 2005
|
May is Archaeology Month in Delaware. Each year, the Delaware Department of Transportation celebrates Archaeology Month by highlighting some of the Archaeology projects in which it has played a part.
DelDOT does more than just build and maintain roads. Long before construction begins, studies are done on the land to determine if there is anything of significance, historically speaking, that should be studied or unearthed. An entire section of this website is devoted to many of the Archaeology projects DelDOT has sponsored or in which DelDOT has participated. During Archaeology Month, we have chosen to highlight 4 project areas. One will be revealed each week. You may also follow the link to the Delaware Archaeology site which will give you information on current digs, some of which allow participation by the general public. It's an amazing event to experience, especially if you have children. When you bring your children to an excavation site where they can get into the dirt and look for and perhaps find artifacts - pieces of Delaware's history - it shows them a little bit of their roots and perhaps their heritage. Plus it can teach them important lessons in the process. It's a wonderful way to spend the day as a family. We hope you enjoy our 4-part presentation for Archaeology Month. We also hope you will explore the other fascinating reports and studies already available online on our Web site. Thank you for taking the time to celebrate Archaeology Month with us. |
