Welcome
Welcome to the official website for the Indian River Inlet Bridge replacement project. This site is the source for public information related to the design and construction of the new Indian River Inlet Bridge.
What's Happening Now
As of this week, all four footers of the bridge are complete. Eventually they will be put underground and not visible, however like the foundation of any structure they are key in giving the bridge its strength and long-term stability.
During the early part of 2010 and into spring, the top of the footing, or "footing caps" will be built. Additionally, concrete edge girders will be placed as construction of the bridge deck begins. Meanwhile, piers and bridge approaches to the main span will be also constructed. As we move into March 2010, deck construction will begin, including the first major concrete pour for the bridge deck. March and April will see alot of construction activity on various parts of the bridge - bridge deck, pylon towers, approaches to main span, etc. Stay tuned for further construction updates for April and May, as the cable stay erection gets underway. Q: How will motorists be impacted by the project over the next year?
A: Since the new bridge is being built off the current roadway alignment, the bridge building activities will rarely impact traffic. However, as we move into late summer 2010, the Roadway Approach contract will get underway. In fall 2010, a traffic switch will take place on the bridge which will be in effect until the bridge officially opens in spring 2011. Recent Updates
