Each year, the Delaware Department of Transportation celebrates the achievements and recognizes the hard work of their many dedicated employees, consultants and contractors.

The 10 Outstanding Projects for 2004 are:

• Sr141 Improvements, SR100 to Tyler McConnell Bridge
• Dover Toll Plaza, Highway Speed E-ZPass Lanes
• C&D Canal Bridge Relighting
• Port Mahon and Choptank Road Improvements
• Greenbank Mill Bridge
• Prices Corner Pedestrian Improvements
• Norfolk Southern Railroad Shellpot Swing Bridge
• Video Security and Safety for Transit
• Snuff Mill Road, West of Centerville
• Mill Creek Road Slope Stabilization

• M & R Concrete Mobile Concrete Lab
• DART Hybrid Electric Buses
• SR1 Beach Area Interim Improvements

These projects represent the best in this year's recognition of Outstanding Project work that was substantially complete by December. They represent a team approach to the full scope of a project's life cycle, including;

• Public input on transportation solutions
• Creative design incorporating the latest technology and materials
• Preservation of environmental and cultural resources
• Support of economic development
• Inclusion of effective construction techniques
• Preservation of our transportation assets

The projects are nominated by individuals within the Department of Transportation. Those nominations are then reviewed by a committee and each nominated group must offer a presentation to substantiate their nomination. Once the process is complete, the list of this year's best projects is compiled.
