Rehoboth Beach Entrance Improvements

Project Area:
The project area encompasses a section of the two major routes that serve Rehoboth Beach:
- The 1-3/4 mile long section of Route 1 (Coastal Highway) from south of Route 1B (Washington Street) to north of the Camelot Meadows intersection and
- The ½ mile long section of Route 1A (Rehoboth Avenue) from Route 1 to the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal Bridge.
The project area also includes portions of the surrounding communities that are dependent on Route 1 for access to Rehoboth Beach.
Project Description:
DelDOT is initiating this project to improve the entire transportation network within the project area for all transportation users. Specifically, the purpose of this project is to:
- Reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic operations and safety within the project area
- Accommodate anticipated traffic growth due to current and future land development
- Improve connectivity between Rehoboth Beach and the surrounding communities, commercial developments and recreational attractions within the project area
- Improve multi-modal travel options for residents and visitors by improving pedestrian, bicycle and transit facilities
The exact nature and scope of potential project(s) is not currently known, but will be identified as we move forward in the project development process.
