Fairwinds Crossovers, Buckley Boulevard to School Bell Road
Project Status
July 16, 2007
The Route 40 Corridor 20-Year Transportation Plan recommends eventual closure of all unsignalized crossovers on Route 40 to improve safety and mobility throughout the corridor. Since the adoption of the Plan in 2000, four unsignalized crossovers have been addressed. The segment along Route 40 between Buckley Boulevard and School Bell Road was chosen for further study because it has the highest concentration of unsignalized crossovers in the corridor: four in one mile. Concept design alternatives were developed in spring 2005. The project is not currently funded or programmed for design and construction.
Public Workshop
March 8, 2005
Forty-seven residents and business owners from the communities along US 40 attended a workshop held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at Union United Methodist Church on School Bell Road. Attendees had the opportunity to view the existing conditions within the project area, including data on traffic volumes and accidents. In addition, there were three potential alternatives presented for full or partial closure of some or all of the four crossovers. Upon reviewing the materials presented, the public had an opportunity to discuss any additional concerns within the project area.
