August 12, 2008 – CMC Public Workshop

On Tuesday, August 12, 2008, 16 people attended the annual Route 40 Corridor Monitoring Committee workshop. The results of the 2007 Route 40 Corridor Monitoring and Triggering Report were presented, including information on land use plans, traffic volumes, safety, and upcoming projects. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss general concerns about travel throughout the Route 40 corridor and review plans for projects under construction. Those who could not attend the workshop can download the workshop materials and Corridor Monitoring and Triggering Report.



June 2, 2008 – School Bell Road Construction

It has been approximately one year since construction began and the final phase, Phase 4, of School Bell Road construction continues with a scheduled completion date in late fall 2008. Phase 2 and Phase 3 construction were completed in April and the intersection at US 40 and School Bell Road is open to traffic. School Bell Road will continue to be closed to through traffic between SR 7 and Jamestowne Drive/Dasher Avenue. As progress continues, segments of the completed roadway may be open to traffic and barricades relocated accordingly. During this time, all local access will be maintained for those residents and developments with direct access to School Bell Road. The road closures are accompanied by detour route signing and are utilized to construct the improvements safely and efficiently.


January 11, 2008 – School Bell Road Construction

Beginning Thursday, January 17, 2008, School Bell Road construction will progress into the next stage of Phase 2 construction. School Bell Road will continue to be closed to through traffic between Jamestowne Drive/Dasher Avenue and Route 40. In addition, no through traffic will be permitted to access School Bell Road via Fir Avenue. The work area will be focused along the segment between Nursery Drive and Route 40. During this time, all local access will be maintained for those residents and developments with direct access to School Bell Road. The road closures will be accompanied by detour route signing and will be utilized to construct the improvements safely and efficiently.


January 11, 2008 – Bear Area Pedestrian Improvements

Construction for the Bear Area Pedestrian Improvements, which began in May of 2007, will be complete by the end of January 2008. The improvements provide sidewalk along Rivers End Drive and Taylor Drive, an asphalt shared-use bicycle/pedestrian path along Smalleys Dam Road from Songsmith Drive to Rivers End Drive and an asphalt shared-use bicycle/pedestrian path along Newtown Road from Brookfield Drive to SR 7. In addition, transit facilities were upgraded and the roadway pavement along Taylor Drive was rehabilitated.


January 11, 2008 – Walther Road Sidewalks

Construction began in April 2007 and is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2008. The proposed sidewalk is substantially complete with the final segment along the west side of Walther Road, between Old Baltimore Pike and Cedar Ridge Court under construction. Upon completion, the project will provide about 1.4 miles of new sidewalk between the Walther farm and Old Baltimore Pike.


October 10, 2007 – School Bell Road Construction

Beginning Monday, October 15, 2007, School Bell Road construction will progress into Phase 2, approximately two months ahead of schedule. As a result, School Bell Road will be closed to through traffic between Jamestowne Drive/Dasher Avenue and Route 40. During this time, all local access will be maintained for those residents and developments with direct access to School Bell Road. The road closures will be accompanied by detour route signing and will be utilized to construct the improvements safely and efficiently.

The results of the 2006 Route 40 Corridor Monitoring and Triggering Report were presented, including information on land use plans, traffic volumes, safety, and upcoming projects. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss general concerns about travel throughout the Route 40 corridor and review plans for projects under construction. July 16, 2007 – 2006 Corridor Monitoring and Triggering Report

The 2006 Route 40 Corridor Monitoring and Triggering Report has been finalized and posted on the website for review. The annual report includes information on land use plans, traffic volumes, safety, and upcoming projects.

The annual public workshop for the 2006 Monitoring and Triggering Report for the Route 40 Corridor is scheduled on Monday, August 20, 2007 at the Bear Library, Community Room #2. The public is invited to attend any time between 4:00 pm and 7:00 p.m.

April 26, 2007 – Whethersfield Presentation

The Whethersfield Maintenance Corporation conducted its annual meeting Thursday, April 26, 2007 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Bear Library. Attendees were presented a brief overview of the proposed improvements along School Bell Road as well as details about the construction schedule, which is expected to begin in June 2007. Residents were provided an opportunity to review the display plans, ask questions, and provide comments on the construction plans.
