[Location Map]:
Bridge 3-461 has been identified by DelDOT's bridge management section as being in need of replacement. The bridge is located on Deer Run Road over Bear Hole Ditch, east of Selbyville in Sussex County.

[South Elevation]:
Bridge 3-461 consists of three 6 foot diameter corrugated metal pipes with a total length of approximately 72 feet.

[Existing Perforation & East Approach]:
The metal pipe of this bridge consists of galvanized steel and has been in place for approximately 34 years. although most of the pipe has held up well, areas on the pipe have experienced heavy rust. because of this, there has been a significant loss of metal at some of these areas. it is important to note that the bridge remains safe to carry normal traffic at this time, however significant corrosion, deterioration and continued structural deficiencies warrant a full bridge replacement.

[Bridge Plan, Section and Elevation] As seen on the bridge plan, section and elevation sheet, DelDOT proposes to replace the existing metal pipe structure with reinforced concrete pipes. additionally, riprap will be placed into the streambed and along the side slopes to protect the proposed bridge and prevent scour or erosion of the stream channel. The guardrail will be replaced and upgraded. This work should take approximately 40 days to complete and is scheduled to occur during the spring or summer of 2015.

[Detour Plan] During construction, the road will be closed in order to perform the proposed work. As you can see, a temporary detour has been planned to accommodate the traveling public.

[Detour Map] This map more clearly demonstrates the route that thru-traffic will take during the temporary road closure. from the west, motorists on Bixler Road (388) will be directed left onto Hudson Road (387), right onto Gum road (392), and then right- onto Zion Church Road (382) to Deer Run Road (388). from the east, motorists will be directed to head east on Deer Run Road (388), left onto Zion Church Road (382), left onto Gum Road (392) and then left onto Hudson Road (387) to Deer Run Road (388).

[Construction Plan] Although DelDOT strives to perform as much of the work as possible within the department's existing right-of-way, sometimes the nature of the work requires a larger area than what is provided. that is the case for this project. As can be seen on the plan sheet, right-of-way and easements will be needed from adjacent property owners in order to complete the work. right-of-way will be required for the placement and maintenance of the rip-rap in and around the stream. the rip-rap will be buried and covered with streambed material in the stream, or topsoil, grass seed, and mulch on the stream banks.

Temporary construction easements will be needed beyond the right-of-way for the placement of sandbags and to divert the stream flow so the in-stream work can be completed. these areas will be restored to their natural condition upon completion of the work.

A real estate representative will be in contact with the affected property owners to explain the department's real estate process.
