Meeting was called to order at 8:00 am and, after introductions, the minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Bill Stewart provided the following construction update:
- Removal of the existing US202 (Concord Pike) roadway is ongoing. The contractor is rotomilling the existing hot-mix pavement. This rotomill material will be reused as road base for the reconstructed roadway.
- Demolition of the former Weldin-Husbands house is scheduled to occur this month.
- Installation of the underground electric along future East Park Drive. Completion of this work will allow for removal of the existing utility pole line along US202 SB.
- Excavation for the East Park Drive underpass is scheduled to begin in early September. Excavation for this structure will require blasting.
Bill pointed out that:
The crossover of traffic onto the six-lane bypass went ahead of schedule and was completed Sunday, July 11th at 1:26 pm. People are thrilled with the detour. Peg mentioned that she has heard nothing but positive comments and some actually said that the detour was easier and better than Route 202 in its original configuration.
The Brandywine switchover went well, both entering and exiting went fine and the site is well signed. This was agreed upon by James Neel.
Message boards to direct traffic to Foulk Road, Weldin Road and US202 will be removed. The group suggested guide signs to be installed in their place.
Peg questioned the quality of maintenance of the landscaping that will be done along Rockland Road. She pointed to a few other sites other than Blue Ball where better attention to maintenance should be done. It was pointed out that this, as part of the parkland, will be maintained by DNREC on an on-going basis, and not as an as-required basis.
A question was raised about the roundabout at Carruthers Lane and if it was still planned. The roundabout will be done in a future phase around 2006.
Charles King asked if the new part of Weldin Rd. (Connector "D") is permanent. Yes.
Question arose about the construction of the privacy wall behind the Ronald McDonald House and if other walls are planned. Construction will start around May 2005 and no other privacy walls are planned.
Question raised by James Neel as to when the second entrance to Brandywine Plaza will be done. It is planned for completion during the last stages of the project, around June 2005.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 am with the next meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 26th at 8:00 am.
