The purpose of the multi-phase project at DART/Delaware Transit Corporation's (DTC) Mid County Maintenance and Operations Facility is to improve DTC's operation in the rapidly expanding areas of southern and western New Castle County. This phase of the project includes the design and construction of a six-bay maintenance facility, associated parts inventory, mechanics locker rooms and lounge, and offices. The facility will include 4 in-ground lifts. The design addresses all current environmental and accessibility issues for transit maintenance facilities. The design is also planned to safely accommodate new transit technology. Fixed Route parking will be expanded to 50 buses and Paratransit will expand to 48 buses. Employee parking will be increased to 110 spaces. The building shall be designed with the capability of adding four additional bays (Phase III). The facility is at the intersection of Route 13 (South DuPont Highway) and Route 72 (Wrangle Hill Road), comprising approximately 20 acres.

$7.4 million.

DART completed a project in 2005 that retrofitted the facility to maintain 18 Paratransit and 30 Fixed Route buses. However, the workload quickly exceeded those capabilities and DTC maintains 43 Paratransit and 33 Fixed Route buses. The Mid County facility helps alleviate crowding at the Wilmington facilities and improves transit service in the Christiana, Newark, Middletown and southern New castle County. Mid County reduces fuel costs, travel time and other operating expenses that improve the overall efficiency of DTC's bus operations in New Castle County.
