Toll Diversion Working Group

The original purpose of the US 301 Toll Diversion Working Group was to evaluate the potential impacts resulting from Delaware’s proposed improvements to US 301, primarily a proposed toll plaza near the Delaware/Maryland state line. However, the focus of the Working Group shifted early on to the more immediate potential diversionary impacts resulting from the construction of weigh and inspection stations in both states on US 301 near the Delaware/Maryland state line.

The Working Group met on three occasions along with members of the Working Group Technical Support Team that was assembled to assist the Working Group members on technical issues.

At the third and final meeting, the Working Group developed and approved a set of recommendations Adobe Acrobat Reader required to view this file. The intent of the recommendations is to maintain, to the greatest extent possible, the quality of life within the communities through which automobiles and trucks are likely to divert to avoid the proposed SHA and DelDOT US 301 weigh stations, and eventually, DelDOT’s proposed US 301 toll plaza.

The Working Group's recommendations were presented to Neil Pedersen, Administrator for the Maryland State Highway Administration and Carolann Wicks, Secretary of the Delaware Department of Transportation. Both Administrator Pedersen and Secretary Wicks have agreed to all of the Working Group's recommendations.
