SR1, Little Heaven Grade Separated Intersection

SR1, Little Heaven Grade Separated Intersection

Project Limits:

The project is located along the SR 1 corridor in the town of Little Heaven, Kent County, Delaware. The approximate limits are from south of Barretts Chapel Rd to north of Mulberrie Point Rd.

Project Overview:

The SR1, Grade Separated Intersection Project was identified through the Corridor Capacity Preservation Program as a potential grade separated intersection location. Conceptual alternatives were developed, and a Preferred Alternative was selected. The Preferred Alternative includes a bridge carrying SR1 over Bowers Beach Road, as well as service roads running adjacent to both sides of SR1 for access to the many existing and proposed developments along the corridor. The project will improve the local road network while helping to preserve the capacity of SR1.

Project Timeline:

Construction Phase: Construction began November 2015.

Construction activities:

Tentatively scheduled for the week of February 25, 2018, SR 1 northbound traffic will be temporarily moved onto proposed Little Heaven Road. Daytime lane closures will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is to allow the Contractor to further progress their work on the proposed SR 1 overpass of Bowers Beach Road and begin the removal of the current SR 1 NB alignment. Included in this work is the activation of the new Bowers Beach Road/Little Heaven Road signal. Also included in this work is the reopening of Front Street at SR 1. Elsewhere on the project, widening work is wrapping up on Bowers Beach Road.
