Project Overview
The northbound I295 and I95 split has experienced congestion during weekday peak hours and on weekends for many years. A needs study and alternatives were completed to increase capacity and operations, which includes the addition of a sixth northbound I-95 travel lane between the Christina River bridge and the Airport Road exit, adding a third northbound I-295 travel lane at its split with I95, and continuing the three travel lanes to the US 13 interchange. A portion of the I-295 improvements fall within the maintenance responsibility of the Delaware River & Bay authority (DRBA).
A detailed map of the proposed improvements can be found below.
Proposed Temporary Detour Plans
The project will require complete nightly road closures of I-95
and I-295 northbound and ramps to complete sign and roadway construction. The temporary road detour
routes can be found below.
The project is expected to begin in Spring 2024 and be completed in Summer 2025
