Planning is a collaborative effort that takes place across DelDOT and involves coordination with local governments, regional planning organizations, other agencies, and the public. DelDOT's Division of Planning supports and coordinates many of these efforts through transportation studies, data collection and analysis, public engagement, and the development of long-range plans and programs.
Transportation improvements often begin years before construction, with extensive study, coordination, and consideration of community needs. Through these efforts, DelDOT works to balance immediate transportation challenges with anticipated needs 10, 20, and even 50 years into the future. By considering how Delaware's communities, economy, and transportation system may evolve over time, planning helps inform decisions that support a safe, efficient, accessible, and reliable transportation system for generations to come.
