Resilience & Sustainability

Overview

Planning for a resilient and sustainable transportation future means addressing the impacts of extreme weather, sea-level rise, and environmental degradation. Due to its low-lying topography, Delaware faces unique challenges with flooding that are inextricably tied to resilience and sustainability. Through strategic planning and innovative initiatives, including air quality conformity and infrastructure electrification, DelDOT aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and protect vulnerable areas. This page centralizes efforts to ensure Delaware's transportation network remains safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible.

Goals
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.
  • Use the Frequently Flooded Roadway prioritization to help guide the investment of future projects.
