OVERALL PAVEMENT CONDITION
Currently, Delaware has 4689 centerline miles of roads, valued at over $5 billion, and the Delaware Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining 89% of them. The national average of state-maintained roads is approximately 20%. When it comes to maintaining this valuable highway infrastructure, the old adage that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is definitely true. Timely maintenance extends the life of existing roads and bridges and saves as much as $3-4 for every dollar of preventive maintenance we spend.
